Tap Dancing to Change Lives: Chloe May’s Dance Academy Joins the 2023 Tapathon for BBC Children in Need!
The rhythm took over as Tap dancers at our fabulous Academy tap danced in The Performers Project’s 2023 Tapathon for a heartwarming cause. A talented group of dancers from the ages of 7 to 80 years tapped their hearts out to raise funds for BBC Children in Need.
On Sunday 19th November 2023, the spotlight shone on as we took part in the 2023 Tapathon, a nationwide event designed to support BBC Children in Need. Tap dancers from dance schools up and down the UK came together at 1pm on the day to showcase their talents. We all Tap danced in unison to 2023’s official Tapathon song – Wham’s timeless hit, “Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go.” Everyone wore a t-shirt that echoed the iconic t-shirt that George Michael wore in the music video!
The event was an exhilarating feat for all of us, with every tap of a shoe adding to the funds raised to help children in need across the UK. Our Tap dancers worked really hard to hone their dance choreography for the event and raised so much sponsorship for their efforts. Overall, the Academy raised a whopping £1147 for such a worthwhile cause! We also hosted a dress-up week in the run up to the Tapathon, with every dancer at the Academy paying a £1 donation at classes to dress up in one of the following ways: in pyjamas, spotty clothes or as Pudsey Bear himself. Every pound raised from the Academy’s efforts went towards providing resources and support to children facing various challenges across the UK. Pudsey Bear even made an appearance at a lot of our classes and happily posed – he had lots of fun with our dancers!
As Principal of the Academy, I was so bowled over by the amount we raised for BBC Children in Need. It was such an important cause to raise money for, we had fun and helped to emphasise that even the smallest of feet can make a big difference in the lives of others with these small acts of kindness.
An amazing effort everyone, we are so proud of you all! xxx
